The Castle in Rocca Calascio
L'AQUILA - In 1254 the
inhabitants of the popular 99 castles were
reunited by Conrad IV thanks to an executive
diploma issued by Frederic II from Swabia:
it stated the construction of the city,
which was probably named after the village
Acculi.
Suspended between sky and earth to 1500
meters altitude, up to a few decades back
the more elevated inhabited center of Abruzzo,
Rocca Calascio, today,
alive only of its ghosts. It is one
of the best-preserved castles in Italy.
Its unbelievable position, here, aloft among
the mountains, doesn't allow anymore intersection
with ours today's human routs.
Its history belongs by now all to the Middle
Age, a dilated middle age, lasted on the
Abruzzi mountains since almost to the thresholds
of ours ages. (Calascio, 1500 mt). |
