The
Airport of Alghero was
born as a military airport during the war.
The first real terminal was built only in
1968.
Alitalia's Flying School was born just at
that airport.
During 1980s, after the demilitarization
of flying assistance services, the airport
of Alghero was changed into a civilian airport.
At the beginning of 1990s, the Airport
of Alghero-Fertilia did not excel,
despite the impulse given to it by tourist
development in 1960s and 1970s.
However in the first half of the nineties
Northern Sardinia and above all Western
Sardinia were made famous by the execution
of suggestions by businessmen, local government
and institutions, aware of the need to promote
local resources and to increment the economy.
